Julian Castro—former Mayor of San Antonio—released an ad today calling on Houstonians to vote Yes on Proposition 1 to protect the city’s equal rights ordinance:
In the ad, Castro explains that while Texas is a great place to live and raise a family, there are still many Texans who face discrimination—as evidenced by the fact that 56% of discrimination claims filed in the last year were based on race. That’s why, Castro explains, Houston needs an equal rights ordinance as “a local tool that helps protect everyone, regardless of race, gender, military status and more.”
As Mayor of San Antonio, he supported the passage of a similar non-discrimination law because he “believes everyone should have an opportunity to earn a living and provide for their families, free from the fear of discrimination.” Already, more than 200 cities—including every other major Texas city—have passed similar laws prohibiting discrimination.
